Over the years we’ve found that during the course of our clients’ financial journey we inevitably encounter situations outside of our professional capabilities that require the assistance of third party advisers, such as a solicitor to place an asset into trust and create a will, an accountant to file a tax return and advise on maximising pension contributions, or a mortgage adviser to reduce the cost of borrowing.
For this reason, we’ve created our Guardian service, giving you direct access to our panel of trusted third-party advisers.
"I am a novice investor and not only have I had better than expected returns on my investment but the 'Guardian' service gives me peace of mind when dealing with the tax implications."

What is Guardian?
Guardian is a unique benefit which smooths the way when collaborating with other professionals to enable us to provide a truly holistic financial planning service.
We’re expert financial planners but we know our limits; that’s why we collaborate with specialist advisers to ensure you’re getting the correct advice. We even contribute up to 10% of our ongoing fee towards the cost of their advice.
How Guardian works
We have a list of pre-approved third-party professionals who we have existing relationships with so know they’re experts in their field; plus we always welcome the chance to work with new professionals so if you have a trusted solicitor, accountant or mortgage adviser we’re happy to collaborate with them, and don’t forget we’ll contribute up to 10% of our ongoing fee towards the cost of their services.
Guardian is a discretionary benefit exclusive to H&W clients with an investment where a need to introduce a professional connection arises (Accountant, Solicitor or Mortgage Adviser) and H&W covers up to 10% of the ongoing fee we charge towards the cost of the professional connection work. PCs can be the client’s existing connection, or we can introduce a professional from our pre-approved list. In either case, chargeable work should be discussed with the clients Adviser prior to any payment from H&W to PC/client.
The allowance is determined at inception and will be based on funds under management at that time. The allowances run from 1st Jan to 31st December and will be pro-rata-ed from inception date. Should a subsequent further amount be invested outside the implementation period, the allowance will be revised up at the following calendar year. Unused allowances will not be carried over to following years. The service is at the discretion of H&W and should always be discussed with us before agreeing on chargeable work with an external professional connection.
What can Guardian Allowances be used for:
- Accountant Work
- Solicitors Work
- Mortgage Work
- Intergeneration need for the 3 above or Financial Planning
Eligibility for Guardian:
- £400K of Funds under Management
- Ongoing fee is 0.5%, discounted fees are not eligible, subject to the minimum of £2K per annum

“The Guardian scheme that Herbert & Webster offer their clients is another great example of how they really look after their clients.
By contributing to the fees of an accountant to prepare the client’s tax return they ensure that clients are both compliant with HMRC and are paying the right amount of tax. Without the Guardian scheme some clients might be prepared to ”have a go at the tax return” themselves which in some cases may be fine but in others may not end well!
The feedback from our clients is always positive of the experience they have with Herbert & Webster and the Guardian scheme is an additional great offering on top of that.”

How Guardian Can Help You
Here’s an example of how Guardian can make your life easier with our proactive approach:
We’ll contact your accountant prior to your tax year end to review your tax allowances, then arrange an annual review to discuss your options… essentially, we’ll come to you with suggestions having looked at all the facts which makes your decision-making process much easier and quicker.
Or maybe you need estate and inheritance tax planning; we can take care of the financial side, whilst working with one of our Guardian approved solicitors to ensure your estate is set up in the correct way and your will is up to date.
If your financial situation is more complex we find it beneficial to organise a roundtable meeting with everyone present so information and ideas can be shared and explained to you first hand. This should avoid any miscommunication and ensure you have the opportunity to ask questions so you fully understand and agree on the best way forward.
Your Family Guardian
It’s likely your estate will involve your children or other beneficiaries, so we extend the Guardian service to them so they can access the advice they need when they need it and secure their own financial futures.
Our Commitment To You
The Guardian service is further proof of our commitment to offering an holistic financial planning service that’s centred on your needs and focused on securing your financial aspirations.
